2025 Annual Conference
An Ohio biosolids bash
On May 21st, 2025 the Midwest Biosolids Association hosted its second Annual Conference at The Ohio State University. The conference was a huge success with approximately 134 attendees. We had another engaging lineup of speakers with a strong contingent from Ohio:
- Session 1 covered updates on biosolids regulation and research on the benefits of biosolids land application.
- Session 2 shared lessons learned from projects across Ohio managing biosolids treatment and biogas production, including Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus.
- Session 3 covered a wide range of topics, including a discussion panel with regulatory leaders from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, and Indiana, who shared their insights on biosolids topics from their states. Stewart Spreading and Synagro shared best practices and research conducted in Milwaukee.
- Session 4 highlighted solids handling projects in Cleveland and Ft. Wayne as well as an engaging personal editorial from Ed Moore, former Public Utilities Director for the City of Toledo.
The pre-conference dinner, held at the local Brewdog Brewery in Franklinton, was fun and causal with 65 attendees. The success of the conference is owed to all the attendees, speakers, and the hard work of the dedicated following:
- Dr. John Norton, Jr., Conference Chair, tirelessly organized the event for a second year.
- Dr. Jeff Hattey and staff, The Ohio State University, hosted the conference at the beautiful Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H while offering additional support.
- The various sponsors contributed far beyond just sponsoring the event, food, and refreshments.
- The presenters offered engaging and informative presentations to the attendees.
- The student poster presenters had a strong representation in the MBA's first poster competition.
The MBA Board of Directors and the Conference Chair especially appreciate the work of everyone, including the attendees, for making this a tremendous success showing the incredible care for the sustainable management of biosolids. Thank you to all who helped make the first annual conference a great success!
