Organizational Structure

Governance that supports collaboration, education, and innovation.

MBA is a 503 (c)(6) not-for-profit organization that will be supported by membership dues, similar to other successful regional biosolids associations. The association was incorporated in the state of Illinois on October 19, 2022. Administrative services for the association are provided by KB III Group which also provides similar outstanding services to other associations such as Illinois Association of Wastewater Agencies.

The association has elected an Executive Committee and filled volunteer roles on technical committees. The funding needed to cover the initial administrative costs was provided by Great Lakes Water Authority, Detroit, MI (GLWA) and KB III Group. Dr. John Norton, Jr. Director of Energy, Research, & Innovation said of the funding, “We at Great Lakes Water Authority are happy to fuel the creation of MBA, as this type of regional association is critical to maintain the benefits of biosolids management accrued over the decades.”

MBA Board of Directors

call for nominations

The Midwest Biosolids Association is seeking nominations for members interested in serving on the Board of Directors. The Board provides leadership and oversight for the association by reviewing and approving initiatives, policies, budgets, and contributes to initiatives that support MBA’s mission and membership. Individuals representing MBA member categories including Generator/Processor, Other Permittee, Business, Alliance, and Individual are eligible to be elected to serve a three-year term on the Board. Board meetings are generally held virtually up to six times per year, with most activities involving review of proposals and recommendations from the Executive Committee and committees. Estimated time commitment is approximately two hours per month.

Serving on the Board is an excellent opportunity to help shape the future direction of MBA and contribute to advancing environmentally sound biosolids management across the region. You can nominate yourself or forward this nomination form to anyone else you would like to nominate.
